Date & Time
Mental Health Carers NSW is proud to host a Wear It Purple Day community event celebrating diversity, inclusion, and the voices of LGBTQIA+ young people, families, and carers.
This event will bring together lived experience speakers, carers, mental health professionals, and community members to explore what meaningful, affirming, and inclusive support looks like for LGBTQIA+ young people and the families and carers who support them. Through lived experience storytelling, panel discussions, audience engagement, and opportunities for connection, the event aims to foster understanding, challenge stigma, and strengthen relationships across communities.
Our keynote speaker, Luke Randall, a young carer and lived experience advocate, will share his perspective on identity, visibility, and the importance of creating inclusive and affirming spaces.
The event will also feature a panel discussion with mental health professionals and lived experience advocates, including Giancarlo De Vera from BEING Mental Health Consumers, exploring key themes such as stigma, intersectionality, working alongside families and carers, what inclusive services look like, and how we can better support LGBTQIA+ communities.
To inform MHCN’s ongoing advocacy work, attendees will also participate in small group discussions focused on safety, carer inclusion, navigating mental health systems, and opportunities to improve service delivery and support for LGBTQIA+ young people, families, and carers.
