Additional Information: The group members are Japanese. There are some carers who are not clear English speakers, so other members support them. Member's kids are 5yrs to 19yrs old. We often share experiences with each other. types of carers: Intellectual disabiltiy, ASD, Language delay.

As January 26th approaches, MHCN acknowledges this date as a day of survival for First Nations people, and for many, a placeholder that highlights the ongoing colonial violence that continues to manifest throughout Australia.

MHCN would also like to like to pay respects to our Elders, past, present, and emerging and acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which we are on, the traditional land on which MHCN is located, the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, and the traditional lands where MHCN staff work remotely.

`Not a Date to Celebrate` is a campaign launched by @clothingthegaps, a Victorian Aboriginal business and social enterprise, to recognise January 26th as a day of mourning, survival, and remembrance for First Nations people. @clothingthegaps has outlined four ways you can stand with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and encourage others to reflect on the true history of this day:

1️⃣ Download and display the FREE `Not a Date to Celebrate` poster at home, work, school, or in your community.
2️⃣ Sign and share the online petition to urge the Prime Minister to reconsider and recognise the harm that celebrating `Australia Day` continues to cause Indigenous Communities.
3️⃣ Wear your values, educate yourself and spark a conversation with your friends, family, or colleagues about why January 26th isn’t a day of celebration.
4️⃣ Attend a local January 26th rally, dawn service or cultural festival to reflect, stand in solidarity, and engage with First Nations Communities.

The imminent resignation of more than 200 psychiatrists from the NSW public health system, in addition to 140 existing vacancies, highlights the critical state of mental health care in NSW. This shortfall will further intensify the difficulties and distress faced by individuals with acute mental health conditions, as well as their families and carers.

In a joint media release with other NSW mental health peak bodies, @beingmentalhealthconsumers and Mental Health Coordinating Council (MHCC), MHCN urges the NSW Government to commit to essential funding and substantial reforms to restore the state’s mental health system. While staffing shortages and remuneration challenges affect the entire sector, meaningful change must be grounded in human rights and tackle the social determinants that contribute to mental health issues at their core.
