MHCN’s Carer Connection Meetings are monthly online events hosted by MHCN’s Deputy CEO and Carer Peer Network Facilitator, Anne Stedman.

These meetings offer a supportive and friendly space for mental health carers to connect, meet new people, and explore advocacy interests. By fostering mutual collaboration, these gatherings also play a key role in shaping MHCN’s policy and advocacy work, ensuring that the voices of mental health carers, families, and friends help guide the organization’s priorities and areas of focus.

The festivities for this year`s @sydneymardigras have officially begun! 🏳️‍🌈

Celebrating 47 years in 2025, get ready for 17 days of unforgettable moments, international performers, parties, theatre, community events and the world-famous Sydney Mardi Gras Parade on Saturday March 1st. This year`s theme `Free to Be` is a celebration of the strides toward true LGBTQIA+ equality while also acting as a global reminder that the fight is far from over.

MHCN proudly stands with the LGBTQIA+ community every day, not just during Mardi Gras. We recognize the unique challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals and we celebrate diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice while ensuring LGBTQIA+ carers are seen, supported, and empowered.

📅 Staying Connected When Emotions Run High is a workshop for families, partners and friends supporting a person (aged 12+ years) who has changeable and overwhelming emotions; experiences relationship difficulties and/or displays impulsive or destructive behaviour such as aggression, self-harm and suicidal behaviours.

Venue: Port Kembla Golf Club, Golf Place, Primbee NSW

In a joint media release with other NSW mental health peak bodies, the Mental Health Coordinating Council (MHCC) and @beingmentalhealthconsumers, MHCN urges the media to better understand how to portray people living with mental health challenges in the news and all forms of communication.

The widespread stigma surrounding mental ill health leads to misconceptions about the risk posed by individuals experiencing mental health issues. The public must be presented with correct information so that they can empathise with the difficulties people face, rather than be made fearful through sensational reporting of situations involving people experiencing mental health challenges or critical events.

It is easy to make assumptions about what may have led to an event occurring when, in fact, there is much more complexity and detail required to fully understand why an event took place.
